A Case History - Estate requirements

Heirs satisfied by equitable division

The equitable division of a collection of European paintings and fine antique furniture and porcelain proved a point of contention among the heirs of a large estate. The heirs disagreed on the individual values of the items in the collection, and the executor was unable to divide the property to everyone’s satisfaction. Hoping to avoid a court action to settle this issue, the executor retained Appraisal Associates to value the collection and divide the assets equally among the heirs.

After providing an independent appraisal of the collection with the inclusion of detailed rationales of value, Appraisal Associates worked out a division strategy based solely on fair market value. As a result, the paintings, furniture, and porcelain in the estate were dispersed fairly among the heirs. All parties were satisfied and no further action was necessary.
