Moving mishap damages Chinese collectibles
As a result of mishandling during a long-distance move, a collection of fine Chinese furniture, ceramics, and art was badly damaged. An initial valuation arranged by the moving company proved to be woefully inadequate, failing to account for the quality of the collection and its current replacement value. The collector understood that under this valuation he would not be fairly compensated for his loss, and he arranged for Appraisal Associates to conduct a second appraisal.
As the loss was substantial, our appraisers provided a detailed loss/claim appraisal inclusive of comparable sales and a substantiated rationale of value. Coming in at a replacement value estimate substantially higher than the first appraisal, the claim was settled on the basis of our detailed report.
